American Slav Congress

Mission Statement

The American Slav Congress (ASC), founded in 1942, seeks to preserve the heritage and traditions of Slavic working peoples who struggled for labor rights, opposition to fascism, imperialism, and racism.

Slavic workers, who have spent decades at the forefront of the American labor movement, have played a crucial role in the creation of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) in the 1930s.

In attacking this progressive legacy, domestic and international reactionary forces use current  national antagonisms to weaken the Slavic world.

In the words of Serbian-American Nikola Tesla, “This new world shall not be a world of the downtrodden and humiliated, but of free people, and free nations, equal in dignity and respect for mankind.

The ASC aims to foster unity among Slavic Americans on the basis of their shared experience as immigrants and descendants of immigrants to the United States.

Although there is much uniqueness, we are more alike than different. The ASC promotes the diverse cultures which Slavic immigrants have brought to our shores. At the same time, we recognize Slavic people are united by an intertwined history. These rich cultures share a commonality comprised of languages, music, art, and cuisine. This has become known as the “Slavic World.”
